October / November Book Club: Daring Greatly
We have time for one more book before the end of the year. I know what you’re thinking: “What about December?!” Well, unless you want to join me for a rousing rendition of The Boy Who Laughed at Santa Claus, I’d say cool your jets. Besides, isn’t it a little early to be thinking about Christmas already? You should be ashamed. At least dress up like a pumpkin and eat some turkey before setting up the Rudolph lawn ornaments! I digress.
I rounded up three more books that run the gamut from geeky (but awesome), to… salty? Per the usual rules, vote for the book you want to read in the comments. Winner takes all!
I’ll announce the winning book on October 14th, so cast your vote pronto! The book club discussion will be on November 23rd.
I confess, I read this during a rainy trip to Costa Rica. But it’s so good I’ll read it again. Easily one of the best books I’ve read in the last five years.
“Moonwalking with Einstein recounts Joshua Foer’s yearlong quest to improve his memory under the tutelage of top “mental athletes.” This is an electrifying work of journalism that reminds us that, in every way that matters, we are the sum of our memories.”
High praise and personal referrals have me really excited to read this one.
“Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable, or to dare greatly. Whether the arena is a new relationship, an important meeting, our creative process, or a difficult family conversation, we must find the courage to walk into vulnerability and engage with our whole hearts.”
I think our shiny white crystal friend has many worldly secrets to share with us.
“The only rock we eat, salt has shaped civilization from the very beginning, and its story is a glittering, often surprising part of the history of humankind. A substance so valuable it served as currency, salt has influenced the establishment of trade routes and cities, provoked and financed wars, secured empires, and inspired revolutions.”
